Classic Buttercream Frosting

4 simple ingredients and 10 minutes to a decadent frosting

Ingredients
  

  • 1 cup salted butter - softened
  • 3 cups powdered sugar
  • 2-3 Tablespoons heavy cream
  • 1-2 teaspoons vanilla

Instructions
 

  • In a mixing bowl add your butter and beat until smooth and pale. Whip it and then whip it more, it will become pale and perfectly smooth
  • Slowly add in 1½ cups of your powdered sugar, 1 Tablespoon of heavy cream and 1 teaspoon of vanilla - continue mixing until smooth
  • Add in the remaining 1½ cups of powdered sugar and 1 Tablespoon of heavy cream and continue mixing until smooth. Taste test for flavor - add more vanilla if you want more flavor. If you need the frosting a thinner consistency add small amounts of cream until desired consistency.
  • If using white food coloring, or any food coloring the final step is to get the desired color.
  • Store in an air-tight container in the refrigerator

Notes

Keeping it real - I love to use pure vanilla but that stuff is expensive so I mostly use imitation. Taste test so if you feel like it could use a little more vanilla flavor you can add it.
If frosting gets to thin just add more powdered sugar a little at a time.
