Equipment

  • 1 quart size jar with a lid or equal size glass with a tight sealing lid
  • muddler or wooden spoon

Ingredients

  • 1 whole orange
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • ice
  • water

Instructions

  • Add 1/4 cup of sugar to your jar or glass
A whole orange, mason jar with muddle and a cup of sugar on a wooden board to make Orange Shake-ups
  • Wash your orange (we are using the rind and all for this recipe) and then cut the orange into thick slices or wedges and drop in your jar or glass
  • Using a muddler or the handle of a wooden spoon - mash and stir the orange pieces into the sugar - releasing the oils in the rind and juicing the orange and pulp

Mason jar of muddled orange slices, sugar and crushed ice to make a Orange Shake-up
  • Now fill your jar or glass with water, leaving an inch or so at the top for room to shake. Now place the lid on tight and shake well to combine and distribute the orange sugar goodness. Keep shaking until the sugar dissolves, usually 30-45 seconds
  • Remove the lid, garnish with a slice of orange if you like, add a straw and enjoy your easy fresh Orange Shake-Up
