Classic Buttercream Frosting
4 simple ingredients and 10 minutes to a decadent frosting
- 1 cup salted butter - softened
- 3 cups powdered sugar
- 2-3 Tablespoons heavy cream
- 1-2 teaspoons vanilla
In a mixing bowl add your butter and beat until smooth and pale. Whip it and then whip it more, it will become pale and perfectly smooth
Slowly add in 1½ cups of your powdered sugar, 1 Tablespoon of heavy cream and 1 teaspoon of vanilla - continue mixing until smooth
Add in the remaining 1½ cups of powdered sugar and 1 Tablespoon of heavy cream and continue mixing until smooth. Taste test for flavor - add more vanilla if you want more flavor. If you need the frosting a thinner consistency add small amounts of cream until desired consistency.
If using white food coloring, or any food coloring the final step is to get the desired color.
Store in an air-tight container in the refrigerator
Keeping it real - I love to use pure vanilla but that stuff is expensive so I mostly use imitation. Taste test so if you feel like it could use a little more vanilla flavor you can add it.
If frosting gets to thin just add more powdered sugar a little at a time.
Lots of tips in the post above.
