Sausage and Shrimp Red Rice

This is also called Savannah Red Rice and the flexibility of using any meat you like makes it super versatile!


  • 4-6 strips bacon
  • 2 bell peppers - any color you like diced
  • 2 medium onions diced
  • 2 cups cooked rice
  • 1 16 ounce can stewed tomatoes
  • 1 cup tomato sauce
  • 1-2 teaspoons Red Hot or Tabasco
  • 1 pound cooked shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • 1 pound smoked sausage, sliced into bite-sized pieces
  • shredded parmesan cheese for sprinkling on top


  • In a large skillet fry all the bacon until crisp.
    Leaving bacon grease in the skillet, set the bacon aside to add back later.
  • Add the diced peppers and onions to the hot bacon grease and fry until softened.
  • Add the cooked rice, stewed tomatoes, tomato sauce, Red Hot, crumbled bacon, cooked shrimp and smoked sausage to the softened peppers and onions in the skillet.
    Continue to cook on low heat for 10-15 minutes.
  • Serve sprinkled with parmesan cheese.


This recipe works great as a side dish as well. Cook according to recipe just omit the smoked sausage and shrimp.
