Unpopular Opinion…….Gingerbread Spice is better than Pumpkin Spice.

Pumpkin pie spice is heavy on cinnamon which while I love I prefer the balance gingerbread provides. An equal amount of allspice, ginger, and cinnamon gives a totally different flavor. While adding a pinch of black pepper takes it just over the top a favorite Christmas taste.

This is such an easy spice mix to make. Simply measure the ingredients into a container with a lid and give a good shake. I like to also give it a good shake right before I measure out some for use.

Gingerbread Spice resembles the ever-so-popular Pumpkin Pie Spice but while they have similar spices in the mix they are different. Using the same spices in different ratios gives a completely different flavor profile.

  • 2 Tablespoons ground ginger
  • 1 Tablespoon ground cloves

Let’s Make Homemade Gingerbread Spice Mix

This couldn’t be easier! Simply mix all the measured spices together, and stir or shake to fully mix for that great gingerbread flavor.

  1. Measure all spices into a jar, place the lid on tightly, and give a good shake to mix them together.
  2. Store in an airtight container

Recipe Note: I like to give the spice mix a good shake before I measure for each recipe. Spice mixes don’t normally settle but it never hurts to give them a good mix before use.

Recipe Note: I like to mix each recipe individually by just adding directly to the jar I am using for storage or for giving.

I like to make this recipe in small batches. I think it ensures each batch is the perfect combination and ratio of spices. You should be sure your jars are ready, spices keep flavor and aroma better in a sealed container.
